Delhi Police Move Against Creator Over Alleged Racial Abuse

Delhi Police action in a case involving alleged racial abuse of a Tripura youth

Delhi Police has begun action against content creator Amir Shokeen after a video allegedly showing him mistreating a youth from Tripura circulated on social media, prompting intervention by the Union minister for Parliamentary Affairs and coordination between Delhi and Tripura Police.

According to Live Hindustan – NCR, Delhi Police personnel reached Shokeen’s residence on the morning of 22 October. A case has been registered against him in connection with the alleged incident. The report did not provide the case number or specify the sections of law invoked.

The video was posted on social media by Union minister Kiren Rijiju, who expressed anger over the alleged racial abuse and said that Delhi and Tripura Police would take strict action. Rijiju also said there had been some delay in filing an official complaint but assured that action would follow.

The Delhi Police unit dealing with cases involving people from the northeastern states said it received information about the matter on the previous evening. It subsequently sent written information to the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre’s Investigation, Forensic and Security Operations unit, or IFSO, for examination of the viral video.

The IFSO unit is expected to examine the video as part of the investigation. Delhi Police has also remained in contact with Tripura Police, according to the report. Tripura Police Inspector General for Law and Order Manchak Ippar said strict action would be taken and that a case would be registered soon. A Tripura Police team was reported to have travelled to Delhi to coordinate further action.

The reported police response places the case within a wider administrative challenge: incidents involving people from the northeastern states often require coordination between local police, specialised Delhi Police units and the home states of those affected. In this instance, the alleged conduct was recorded and circulated online before formal investigative steps were announced, bringing pressure on authorities to establish what happened and identify any offences supported by evidence.

Shokeen deleted the video after the controversy grew and apologised on social media. He claimed that the video was scripted and said he had not intended to hurt anyone’s sentiments. That explanation remains part of the reported account and will have to be assessed by investigators alongside the original video, statements from those involved and other available evidence.

The report also carried allegations made by Shokeen’s brother, Mohammad Wasim Raja, concerning Shokeen’s past conduct and property disputes. Those allegations have not been independently established in the supplied material and are separate from the police investigation into the video.

The next steps are the examination of the video by the IFSO unit, coordination between Delhi and Tripura Police, and further action based on the investigation and any formal complaint recorded by the authorities.
