Delhi Metro security personnel caught a passenger who allegedly tried to flee from Jama Masjid station after a suspicious object was detected during baggage screening, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) said. The passenger was handed over to the local police for further investigation.

The incident took place on October 18 at the underground station, according to officials. The CISF published a 27-second CCTV video of the chase on its official X account on October 19, showing security personnel pursuing the man through the station.

The force said an X-ray baggage inspection system detected a suspicious, dense object in the passenger’s belongings. After collecting his bag from the scanner, the man allegedly ran out through the women’s frisking enclosure. A CISF jawan who noticed the movement discarded the metal detector he was carrying and followed him.

According to the CISF account, the passenger used the escalator while the jawan took the stairs. The security personnel caught him near Gate No. 1, with another CISF colleague joining the pursuit. The man was then brought back to the station for further examination.

The CISF said its personnel found an unidentified semi-solid substance concealed in a stitched portion of the man’s undergarment, which had been kept inside his bag. The force said the material was suspected to be gold paste, but its identity was still being investigated. The substance was not described as confirmed gold in the statement.

The passenger reportedly claimed to be an NRI residing in Kuala Lumpur. The CISF handed him and his belongings over to the local police, who are investigating the material and the circumstances surrounding its concealment. The supplied report does not provide details of any arrest, charges or forensic findings.

The incident highlights the layered security process used at Delhi Metro stations, where passengers and baggage are screened before entry and suspicious movements may trigger intervention by security personnel. The CISF is responsible for security at the metro network, while the police take over criminal investigation after a person or material is handed over to them.

The police investigation is expected to establish the substance’s identity and determine whether any offence was committed. No further official findings were provided in the CISF statement cited in the report.
