Delhiās municipal corporation carried out demolition action at 24 locations and sealed five properties on Monday as part of a citywide enforcement drive against unauthorised construction, dangerous buildings and violations of the Master Plan of Delhi and building regulations.
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi said the operation was conducted across all 12 zones to improve compliance with construction rules and protect public safety. Five demolition orders were also issued for violations related to building construction, according to the report.
The action covered several areas, including Ganesh Nagar-2 Extension, Shakarpur, Old Seelampur, Gandhi Nagar, New Ashok Nagar and Shakurpur JJ Colony. MCD officials said enforcement teams were monitoring violations in different parts of the city and taking action under the applicable rules and provisions.
The latest drive comes amid heightened scrutiny of enforcement agencies after a paying guest building collapsed in Satya Niketan in south Delhi at the beginning of September. The incident had raised questions among local residents and students about the role of the MCD, the Delhi Development Authority, district administration, Delhi Police and the Delhi Fire Services.
MCD officials said that during the past month, action had been taken against around 1,400 properties for violations. Approximately 1,200 properties faced demolition action, while nearly 300 shops were sealed. The corporation also issued several demolition orders against those found violating construction rules.
The figures indicate the scale of enforcement activity, but the report does not provide a zone-wise breakdown of the properties acted against, the nature of the violations or the number of structures removed entirely. It also does not specify whether the properties were occupied, under construction or classified as dangerous before action was taken.
Alongside physical inspections, the MCD plans to use drones to monitor unauthorised construction, dilapidated buildings and other violations. Surveillance is expected to cover unauthorised colonies, JJ clusters and other areas in western, northern, north-western, north-eastern, south-eastern and south-western Delhi.
According to MCD officials, drone-based information will be sent quickly to enforcement teams so that action can be taken against violations of building by-laws and the Master Plan. Ward-level teams will also inspect the identified areas, while surveillance will be carried out with police assistance. Officials said violators would face challans and notices where violations are detected.
The corporation has reiterated that unauthorised construction and breaches of building regulations will not be tolerated within its jurisdiction. Regional officers have been instructed to maintain close surveillance and act according to the Master Plan of Delhi, building by-laws and other relevant provisions. The enforcement campaign is scheduled to continue across all 12 MCD zones.
