The Delhi Police have registered an FIR against unidentified persons over alleged threats received by the special executive magistrate handling the bail proceedings of CJP leaders Saurabh Das and Ashutosh Ranka, according to an ANI report citing sources. The development came as the two leaders remained in judicial custody following their detention during a protest-related case.
The magistrate, identified in the report as a special executive magistrate, had reportedly told the court that a threatening message had been received during proceedings linked to Das and Ranka. Police had initially recorded a non-cognisable report in the matter. The case was subsequently registered as an FIR, although the supplied report does not identify the sender or provide details of the alleged message.
The proceedings have also triggered allegations from the CJP that the bail process was being delayed. Ratna Singh, the party’s head of legal affairs, said the hearing was scheduled for noon but that the special executive magistrate and the government prosecutor arrived at about 5.30 pm, according to statements quoted in the report.
Singh alleged that instead of examining the release of Das and Ranka, the proceedings were redirected towards the alleged threat received by the magistrate. She questioned why action had not been taken against the person who allegedly sent the message and why the number cited in the complaint had not been included in the order.
The CJP described the detention as illegal and alleged that the police and administration were attempting to keep the two leaders in custody. Party chief Abhijit Dipke also alleged that the authorities were using procedural delays to prevent their release. These allegations were made by the party and have not been independently established in the supplied report.
The case follows a protest called by the CJP on October 10. Dipke, Ranka and Das were initially detained. Singh later said on October 11 that they were released after signing a bond requiring them to maintain peace and good conduct for one year. Police said a bond of Rs 50,000 was taken under those conditions before the special executive magistrate’s court ordered their release.
According to a PTI report cited in the article, the court later sent Das and Ranka to five days of judicial custody on October 14. Police said the decision was based on a preventive report, allegations that the activists had repeatedly violated the law, and concerns that they could break the law again or provoke others if released on bail.
The FIR adds a separate police investigation to a case already involving preventive action, protest restrictions and questions over the timing of bail proceedings. The immediate next step is the Delhi Police investigation into the alleged threat and the identity of the persons named in the FIR.
