Delhi Hospital Bribery Case: CBI Arrests Doctor, Contract Worker

CBI investigation linked to a Delhi hospital bribery case involving tender work

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a medicine specialist and a contract worker at Bhagwan Mahavir Hospital in Delhi’s Pitampura in an alleged one-lakh-rupee bribery case linked to tender-related work. The agency said the doctor was allegedly demanding money to protect a tender from cancellation, ensure timely clearance of bills and prevent objections from being raised in the complainant’s file.

According to the report, the doctor was posted in the hospital’s medicine department and was also serving as the nodal officer for outsourcing-related work. The CBI registered a first information report against him after receiving a complaint concerning the alleged demand for money.

The agency subsequently arrested the doctor while he was allegedly accepting the bribe through a contract worker. The second accused worked at the hospital as a nursing orderly, according to the report. Both men were arrested and are being questioned as part of the investigation.

The alleged transaction relates to the administration of a tender awarded to the complainant. The CBI’s account, as reported by Jagran, indicates that the alleged payment was sought in return for ensuring that the tender was not cancelled, bills connected with the work were passed on time and the file did not face objections.

The case places the focus on the administrative processes that support hospital operations beyond clinical care. Outsourced services, tender files, bills and internal approvals are part of the procurement chain through which public hospitals obtain supplies and services. Decisions at these stages can affect vendors, hospital finances and the continuity of non-clinical operations.

The arrest also involves two people with different roles within the hospital’s administrative structure: an officer reportedly connected with outsourcing-related tender work and a contract employee alleged to have acted as an intermediary in receiving the money. The CBI is investigating whether other people were involved in the alleged demand or in irregularities connected with the tender process.

The agency’s investigation is continuing. The allegations remain subject to the legal process, and the arrests do not by themselves establish guilt. Further proceedings are expected to determine the evidence related to the alleged bribe demand, the tender decisions and the possible involvement of additional individuals.
