Delhi Half Marathon traffic restrictions will affect major roads and junctions across central Delhi on Sunday, with diversions and movement controls scheduled from 4:45 am to 11 am. The race will begin at around 5:10 am from the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium and is expected to draw more than 40,000 participants.
According to the Delhi Traffic Police, restrictions will be imposed along the marathon route and at connecting intersections as runners take part in the half marathon, 10-kilometre race, senior citizens’ run, differently abled champions’ event, corporate run and Great Delhi Run. The measures are intended to regulate vehicle movement while the events are under way.
The half marathon covers 21.097 kilometres. Runners will leave the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium complex and move through Bhishma Pitamah Marg, Lodhi Road, Sri Aurobindo Marg near the Safdarjung Tomb intersection, Mathura Road, Subramania Bharati Marg, Dr Zakir Hussain Marg and the C-Hexagon before reaching Kartavya Path. The route then continues through Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Marg, Seva Teerth Circle, Maulana Azad Road and the Man Singh Road intersection, before returning through the India Gate Hexagon and Canopy roundabout to the stadium complex.
Traffic controls will also cover Fourth Avenue and the Bhishma Pitamah Marg intersection below the Sewa Nagar flyover, Kotla Red Light, Sewa Nagar Red Light, Meherchand Market Red Light, Second Avenue, Jor Bagh Colony Road and the Aurobindo Marg–Lodhi Road junction. Other affected points include the Rajesh Pilot Marg–Amrita Sher-Gil Marg intersection, Subramania Bharati Marg junctions with Max Mueller Marg and Maharshi Raman Marg, the Archbishop Makarios Marg junction, Lala Lajpat Rai Marg and Neela Gumbad.
Further restrictions are expected at the Mathura Road–Bhairon Road intersection, Q-Point, the Man Singh Road roundabout and the Janpath–Maulana Azad Road junction. These locations connect several important central Delhi corridors, meaning commuters travelling between south and central Delhi may encounter diversions or delays during the restriction period.
The differently abled champions’ and senior citizens’ race will cover approximately 2.5 kilometres from the stadium complex to the Lodhi Road intersection, where participants will take a left U-turn before finishing at Gate 2. The open 10-kilometre race will pass through Bhishma Pitamah Marg, Lodhi Road, Sri Aurobindo Marg, Mathura Road, Archbishop Makarios Marg and Subramania Bharati Marg before turning back towards the stadium.
The corporate run and Great Delhi Run will start at the stadium complex, pass through Bhishma Pitamah Marg and Lodhi Road, and reach the Sri Aurobindo Marg intersection. Participants will then return along Lodhi Road’s right carriageway and Bhishma Pitamah Marg before finishing outside the main stadium.
The traffic arrangements come as Navratri events are also drawing crowds in the national capital. The report said traffic police personnel are already managing increased movement linked to the festival, adding another layer of traffic coordination during the marathon period. The Delhi Traffic Police’s restriction window is scheduled to remain in place until 11 am on Sunday.
