Delhi Electrocution Incident Claims Two Lives and Dog in RK Puram

New Delhi, two young men and a street dog lost their lives due to electrocution in the early hours of Sunday. The tragedy occurred when a tree, felled by heavy rainfall, brought down electrical wires, creating a live current near a roadside kiosk. The victims, identified as Ravinder (30) and Bharat (25), were sleeping outside the kiosk when the accident took place.

The Delhi Police received a distress call at 4:29 AM from Sunil, the owner of the dhaba operating from a Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) kiosk on Vivekanand Marg. He reported the tragic deaths of his two employees. Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with waterlogging exacerbating the danger posed by the exposed electrical wires. This incident underscores a recurring issue in Delhi, where electrocution deaths have been on the rise during the monsoon season. Experts attribute these fatalities to a combination of factors, including unauthorized cable installations, illegal extensions from electrical networks, substandard internal wiring, and unsafe storage practices near electrical equipment. Neglect in which live wires come into contact with pools of water on the roads has also caused fatalities.

In a similar incident in Kalkaji, southeast Delhi, a nine-year-old boy died of electrocution due to lapses in the park’s electrical infrastructure. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) found the condition of a power feeder pillar to be unsafe and hazardous, with exposed, uninsulated wires posing a serious electrocution risk. These tragedies highlight the urgent need for improved urban infrastructure and safety measures to prevent such incidents. Authorities must take immediate action to address the hazards posed by exposed electrical wires and ensure that public spaces are safe for all residents.
