Security has been tightened at the Noida-Delhi borders ahead of a major protest scheduled in the national capital on Saturday, with police personnel and Border Security Force jawans deployed at key entry points and vehicles subjected to checks.
At the Chilla border, teams from the Noida and Delhi police, along with BSF personnel, have been stationed as part of the heightened arrangements, officials said. Police have begun checking vehicles considered suspicious and questioning people where necessary, while maintaining surveillance over buses, taxis and private cars entering Delhi from Noida.
Reinforced concrete barriers have also been placed at the border. The measures come ahead of a protest called by the Cockroach Janata Party, or CJP, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over allegations of irregularities in election-related processes.
Sources suggested that authorities could move to seal the border around 9 pm on Friday, but there was no official confirmation of the proposed step at the time of the report. Any such restriction would affect one of the important road connections between Noida and Delhi, although the report did not specify the possible duration or extent of a closure.
The security arrangements are expected to be closely watched by daily commuters who travel between Noida and Delhi by road. Buses, taxis and private vehicles using the border may face additional screening, which could increase travel times during the evening period. The report did not provide details of any diversion plan or traffic advisory issued by the authorities.
Separately, several social organisations, members of farmers’ unions and political leaders in Noida alleged that police had placed them under house arrest ahead of the protest. Sukhveer Khalifa, president of the Bhartiya Kisan Parishad, told PTI by phone that security personnel from the police and other forces were present at his home and that he was not being allowed to leave. He said associates involved in farmers’ rights activism had reported similar situations.
“I have security personnel from police and other forces at my home and around it and I am not allowed to go out. My associates who are farmers rights activists also informed me about a similar situation with them. I wish to participate in the protest in Delhi tomorrow along with fellow farmers,” Khalifa said.
There was no official response to the house-arrest allegations in the report. Calls to senior officials went unanswered. The Noida Metro Rail Corporation, however, said its services would operate as usual on Saturday according to the regular weekend timetable. The next confirmed operational update is expected from the police and traffic authorities regarding any border closure, restrictions or diversions.
