More than nine lakh people in Delhi have registered under Ayushman Bharat, while hospitals and other healthcare providers have received Rs 118 crore against about 85,000 claims, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said on Wednesday. The figures were released as the Delhi government highlighted its health, housing, transport and infrastructure initiatives backed by the Centre.
Gupta said nearly three lakh senior citizens had enrolled under the Ayushman Vaya Vandana Yojana, which provides health cover to people aged 70 and above irrespective of income. The Delhi government has added another Rs 5 lakh to the Centre’s Rs 5 lakh health cover, taking the total coverage to Rs 10 lakh per person, according to her statement.
The government has also established around 415 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs in the capital and has set a target of 1,100 such facilities. Gupta said Jan Aushadhi medicines were available at prices nearly 90% lower than market rates. The measures are intended to expand access to primary healthcare and reduce the cost burden on residents, although the statement did not provide a district-wise breakdown of registrations, claims or facility usage.
The chief minister also cited food and household-support programmes. Around 73 lakh families receive free rations every month, she said, while nearly three lakh gas connections have been provided under the Ujjwala scheme. These figures were presented alongside the health data as part of the government’s account of Centre-backed welfare delivery in Delhi.
On infrastructure, Gupta said road projects worth more than Rs 1.2 lakh crore had been completed, were under way or were at the planning stage over the past 12 years. The projects cited included the Pragati Maidan Integrated Transit Corridor, the Dhaula Kuan signal-free corridor, the Mahipalpur underpass and expressways connecting Delhi with other regions.
Delhi-NCR’s Metro network carries around 85 lakh passengers daily, according to the chief minister. Total investment in Delhi Metro projects from Phase I to Phase V stands at Rs 1.2 lakh crore, including a Delhi government contribution of Rs 27,000 crore. Around 5,300 electric buses are also operating in the capital, she said.
Gupta further said the Centre had provided Rs 1,200 crore under the Swachh Bharat Mission, Rs 830 crore under AMRUT and Rs 1,650 crore under the SASCI scheme. The funding, she said, was supporting nearly 30 projects. The statement did not identify each project or provide implementation timelines for the full set of works.
Housing and land regularisation were also included in the government’s account. Gupta cited the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and the ‘Jahan Jhuggi, Wahan Makan’ initiative for eligible families. She said PM-UDAY had regularised 1,511 unauthorised colonies, potentially benefiting around 45 lakh people.
The figures were released after the Delhi cabinet unanimously passed a resolution honouring Prime Minister Narendra Modi for completing 25 years of public service. Gupta attributed the capital’s development progress to the Centre’s financial, technical and administrative assistance. The government’s next steps include expanding Ayushman Arogya Mandirs towards the stated target of 1,100 facilities and continuing the listed health, housing, transport and infrastructure programmes.
