The BMC said it had made arrangements to handle festival-related injuries, particularly those sustained during human pyramid formations at Dahi Handi events. The latest figures cover hospital reports from different parts of Mumbai and reflect the status available at the time of the civic update.
In neighbouring Thane district, at least 56 Govindas were injured during celebrations, according to officials. A list prepared on September 5 recorded 22 injured participants at District Government Hospital in Thane and 34 at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital in Kalwa.
The injuries reported in Thane ranged from minor bruises and pain to fractures, head injuries and injuries involving the limbs, shoulders, chest, back and neck. The BMC’s next hospital update will determine whether the number of admissions and patients under treatment changes further.
