Connaught Place’s Inner Circle will become a car-free public space on October 4 as the Raahgiri Foundation, Delhi Traffic Police, Fit India and the New Delhi Municipal Council organise a day of cycling, fitness activities, music and street performances.
Motorised vehicles will make way for pedestrians and cyclists during the programme, which is intended to promote walkability, non-motorised transport and community use of one of central Delhi’s most recognisable public spaces. The event will bring together road users, local performers, fitness groups and residents for activities across the Inner Circle.
A live performance by Indian rock band Euphoria at Central Park is among the main attractions. Local artists will also perform, while organisers have planned street performances, street art and other public engagements through the day.
The programme is being held in partnership with Fit India’s ‘Sundays on Cycle’ initiative. Citizens will be encouraged to take part in community cycling drives and fitness activities, with demonstrations focused on walking, cycling and other forms of non-motorised transport.
Interactive workshops, sports and fitness activities will run alongside the cultural programme. According to the event details reported by Millennium Post, the organisers are also planning activities centred on youth participation, civic engagement and environmental stewardship.
The temporary vehicle-free arrangement places the Inner Circle at the centre of a public-space experiment in a district normally associated with traffic, retail, offices, restaurants and high pedestrian activity. By reserving the road space for people for the duration of the event, the programme will allow visitors to use the area for recreation and community activities rather than regular motorised movement.
The event is also scheduled to serve as a curtain-raiser for Urban Adda ’26, a three-day urban transformation conference at the India Habitat Centre from October 5 to 7. The conference will follow the Raahgiri programme and extend the focus on urban transformation beyond the one-day public-space event.
The October 4 programme is being organised jointly by the Raahgiri Foundation, Delhi Traffic Police and Fit India, in association with the NDMC. Details supplied for the event identify the Inner Circle as the car-free zone and do not specify any wider traffic restrictions beyond the programme area.
