Chennai Traffic Diversions Announced for Modi Visit on Sunday

The Greater Chennai Traffic Police has announced traffic diversions for commercial and heavy vehicles across several major roads in the city on Sunday, October 11, during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit. The restrictions will be in effect from 8 am to 4.30 pm to support traffic movement and public safety.

Vehicles travelling from Tambaram will be diverted at Tiruneermalai Junction towards Kundrathur Road. Traffic approaching from Pallavaram will be diverted at International Airport Junction, near Hotel Airway, towards Tambaram.

On Jawaharlal Nehru 100 Feet Road towards Kathipara Bridge, commercial and heavy vehicles will be diverted at Ashok Nagar 2nd Avenue towards Koyambedu or KK Nagar. Vehicles coming from Ashok Pillar will be diverted at CIPET Junction towards Guindy Industrial Estate.

Traffic from Mount Poonamallee Road towards Kathipara Bridge will be diverted at Porur Toll Plaza towards Maduravoyal. Vehicles travelling on Mount Poonamallee Road will also face a diversion at Ramapuram Junction towards Arasamaram Junction.

On the eastern side of the city, vehicles approaching from Old Mahabalipuram Road and Sardar Patel Road will be diverted at Gandhimandapam Junction towards the Central Polytechnic campus area, referred to in the traffic advisory as CPT. Vehicles coming from Gandhimandapam Salai will face the same diversion at Gandhimandapam Junction.

Vehicles travelling from Velachery Main Road towards Sardar Patel Road will be diverted at Guru Nanak Junction towards Velachery. On Anna Salai, traffic will be diverted at MC Raja U-turn towards Anna Salai, after which vehicles will be allowed to proceed to their respective destinations.

The diversions cover key approaches connecting southern Chennai, the airport area, Kathipara, Porur, Guindy, Velachery, OMR and Anna Salai. Because the advisory specifically targets commercial and heavy vehicles, freight operators and transport companies using these corridors will need to account for additional routing requirements during the stated hours.

The traffic police has asked the public, motorists and transport operators to cooperate with personnel on the roads, follow the prescribed diversion routes and plan their journeys in advance. The arrangements will remain in force from 8 am until 4.30 pm on Sunday, according to the advisory issued for the Prime Minister’s visit.
