The price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder in Chennai has increased by Rs 66.50 from October 1, taking the revised rate to Rs 2,984 and raising the operating costs of hotels, restaurants, bakeries, tea shops, canteens and other establishments that depend on commercial cooking gas.
The latest revision was reported by DT Next, citing a Daily Thanthi report. Commercial LPG prices are revised by oil marketing companies at the beginning of every month. The October increase comes ahead of the festive season, a period when demand from hotels, restaurants and catering businesses generally rises.
The revised Chennai rate is part of a wider increase across major Indian cities. According to the report, the increase ranges from Rs 62.50 to Rs 71.50 per 19-kg cylinder. In Delhi, the price has risen by Rs 62.50 to Rs 2,810, while Kolkata has recorded a Rs 70 increase, taking its price to Rs 2,954.
Mumbai’s commercial LPG cylinder is now priced at Rs 2,764.50 after an increase of Rs 63.50. In southern cities, Bengaluru’s rate has risen by Rs 67 to Rs 2,898, while Hyderabad has recorded a Rs 69 increase, taking the price to Rs 3,065. Thiruvananthapuram’s revised price is Rs 2,849 after a Rs 65 increase.
Patna has recorded the highest increase among the major cities covered in the report, with the price rising by Rs 71.50 to Rs 3,100.50. The revised commercial LPG rates are effective from October 1.
The latest change applies to commercial cylinders, while the price of domestic LPG remains unchanged. A 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder continues to cost Rs 957.50 in Chennai.
The revision follows a period of substantial movement in commercial LPG prices. According to PTI, commercial cylinder prices increased by Rs 9.50 in September after being reduced by Rs 192 in August and Rs 183.50 in July. Between February and June, prices rose by Rs 1,373 per 19-kg cylinder amid disruptions to global energy supplies and elevated international prices.
The revised rates will determine the fuel costs faced by commercial kitchens and food-service establishments during the October billing cycle. Oil marketing companies’ next monthly revision will establish whether commercial LPG prices rise, fall or remain unchanged.
