Chennai International Airport has temporarily relocated all ATR (smaller aircraft) departures of IndiGo Airlines to Domestic Terminal 4 (T4).
This strategic move aims to facilitate essential upgrades to Taxiway H, enhancing the airport’s capacity to handle Code E aircraft, such as the Boeing 787, in the near future. Passengers flying to regional destinations like Trichy, Tuticorin, Madurai, Mysuru, Vijayawada, Salem, and Rajahmundry are now required to check in at T4. Upon arrival at Chennai, these ATR flights will continue to disembark passengers at Domestic Terminal 1 (T1). To assist with the transition, airport authorities have deployed buggies to transport passengers between terminals, ensuring minimal inconvenience. Additionally, a walkalator connecting T1 and T4 over a one-kilometre stretch remains operational for those preferring to walk.
The relocation of ATR flights to T4 is part of a broader initiative to upgrade Chennai Airport’s infrastructure. The strengthening of Taxiway H is a critical component of this project, enabling the airport to accommodate larger aircraft and increasing its overall operational efficiency. This development aligns with the airport’s goal to enhance connectivity and support the growing demand for air travel in the region. To ensure passengers are well-informed, Chennai Airport and IndiGo Airlines have been actively communicating the terminal change through various channels, including social media and on-site signage. Passengers are strongly advised to verify their departure terminal details before arriving at the airport to avoid any confusion or delays.
