A chemical theft racket operating in Changodar GIDC near Ahmedabad has been busted by the Ahmedabad Rural Local Crime Branch, with five people arrested and assets worth ₹68.20 lakh seized, according to a report by Sandesh – Ahmedabad.
The operation was carried out after the Ahmedabad Rural LCB received specific information about the alleged theft network. Police raided a warehouse in the Changodar GIDC area and detained the five accused while chemical was allegedly being stolen from tankers and stored at the premises.
According to the report, the group was targeting tankers carrying phenyl chemical. The stolen material was allegedly accumulated at the warehouse before being sold illegally in the market. The report did not identify the warehouse owner, the tanker operator, or the alleged buyers.
The items seized during the police action included a quantity of allegedly stolen phenyl chemical, a chemical tanker, other vehicles, mobile phones, and cash. The combined value of the seized material, vehicles, and other items was assessed at ₹68.20 lakh, the report said.
