A dispute at a private school in Maruthi Nagar, Champapet, Hyderabad, escalated on Monday after Class X students wearing a Durga Mata Mala were allegedly denied entry to special classes, prompting a parents’ protest, political intervention and police action.
Parents staged a dharna outside Sainik School, expressing concern over the management’s decision and demanding action against those responsible. BJP leaders also joined the protest, calling for the students to be allowed to attend the special classes without discrimination.
The incident drew senior police officials to the school premises after the situation became tense. Their intervention followed the protest by parents and local political representatives over the students’ access to classes.
The school management subsequently suspended G Pushpalatha, a Telugu teacher who, according to the report, prevented the students from attending the special classes. The available account does not specify the duration of the suspension or whether the management has issued a detailed public explanation of the decision.
Police said a complaint had been received from the parents against the school management. G Nagaraju, inspector of the I S Sadan police station, said a case of hurting religious sentiments had been registered and that the facts were being verified.
“We have received a complaint from the parents against the school management. A case of hurting religious sentiments has been booked. We are verifying the facts and details will be disclosed after completion of investigation,” Nagaraju said.
The episode places the school’s handling of student access, religious expression and disciplinary authority under scrutiny. It also illustrates how disputes inside educational institutions can quickly become matters involving parents, political groups, school managements and the police, particularly when the issue is perceived to involve unequal treatment of students.
The police investigation is expected to establish the circumstances in which the students were denied entry to the special classes and determine the responsibility of the individuals involved. The authorities have not yet disclosed further details of the case.
