A car allegedly travelling at high speed crashed into a petrol pump near Attibele on the outskirts of Bengaluru on October 8, triggering a fire and seriously injuring a pump employee, according to police. The driver and a woman travelling in the vehicle escaped before the car was engulfed in flames.
The incident occurred at an HP petrol station near the Attibele border with Tamil Nadu. The vehicle allegedly lost control and hit petrol pump employee Guddu Kumar before crashing into the dispensing unit. The impact caused the vehicle and the pump to catch fire, with flames spreading within seconds, the report said.
The driver, identified by police as Sanjay, was travelling with a young woman at the time of the crash. Both occupants managed to get out of the car before it caught fire. The incident led to panic among customers and staff at the station.
Guddu Kumar sustained serious injuries to his leg and was taken to a private hospital, where he was undergoing treatment, according to the report. No other injuries were reported in the supplied account.
The fire response involved emergency services from both sides of the State border. One fire tender each from Electronics City and Anekal, along with another from Hosur in Tamil Nadu, reached the location and brought the blaze under control. The response highlighted the need for coordination around high-risk facilities located close to an inter-State boundary and on a major urban fringe.
Attibele police took Sanjay into custody and registered a case. Further investigation is under way to establish the circumstances of the crash, including how the vehicle allegedly lost control and the sequence of events leading to the fire.
