Buxar District Administration Tightens Accountability After Officials Miss Key Meeting

Buxar district administration meeting reviewing civic projects and public grievances

Buxar district administration has ordered one day’s salary withholding from seven officials and sought explanations for their unauthorised absence from a district coordination committee meeting chaired by District Magistrate Sahila at the collectorate on Monday. The meeting reviewed development schemes, healthcare campaigns, revenue work and public grievance redressal across the district.

The officials named in the action include block development officers from Nawanagar, Chakki, Kesath, Rajpur and Chaugain, along with the circle officers of Chaugain and Buxar. The district magistrate directed the officials to explain their absence and ordered action to fix accountability for non-attendance without permission.

Several other officials and institutional representatives were also reported absent from the meeting. They included block panchayat raj officers from Nawanagar and Brahmpur, representatives of the Food Corporation and Bihar Medical Services and Infrastructure Corporation Limited, and the district IT manager. The district administration said attendance and inter-departmental coordination were important because the meeting covered multiple public-service and development programmes.

The review also included construction of a sewage treatment plant and an intermediate pumping station in Buxar town. Officials were instructed to expedite land-related proposals for the projects and correct discrepancies identified during scrutiny. The two facilities are among the civic works being monitored through the district coordination process, although the report did not specify their construction stage, capacity or completion timeline.

The meeting assessed progress under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, TB Mukt Bharat and Anaemia Mukt Bharat campaigns. The civil surgeon was directed to intensify outreach through ASHA workers and improve coordination between departments to accelerate child immunisation. These instructions placed health outreach and infrastructure-related work within the same administrative review framework.

Grievance redressal figures presented at the meeting showed that 137 applications had been received at state-level Sahyog camps, of which 125 had been resolved and 12 remained pending. Panchayat-level camps had received 9,455 applications, with 8,734 disposed of. Across the reviewed grievance channels, 733 applications were still pending, according to the report.

The district magistrate directed officials to prioritise the disposal of pending complaints and ensure that redressal was of acceptable quality rather than limited to procedural closure. She also ordered surprise checks of biometric attendance and required reports to be submitted on the same day. The administration warned that negligence in public service would not be tolerated and instructed departments to strengthen coordination on pending schemes and citizen grievances.
