Birbhum’s stone sector recorded Rs 3.44 crore in revenue from Duplicate Challan Receipts (DCR) in a single day, according to an X post by Suvendu Adhikari, who described the collection as an all-time daily record for the district.
Adhikari said the amount was collected on the first day of Navratri and compared it with the Rs 3.28 crore collected across the entire month of October last year under the previous government. He also said that Rs 32.17 crore had been collected from the stone sector during the first 11 days of October this year.
The figures place Birbhum’s stone-related revenue collection at the centre of a wider administrative focus on preventing revenue leakage from the sector. In his post, Adhikari credited the Birbhum district administration and the Land Office with improving collections and stopping revenue evasion.
“Yesterday, on the very first day of Navratri, a total of 3 crore 44 lakh rupees in revenue was collected from the stone DCR, which is an all-time record for a single day’s collection,” Adhikari said in the post.
He said the current month’s collection had already exceeded the total reported for October last year. The Rs 32.17 crore collected in the first 11 days represents nearly 10 times the previous October’s full-month figure of Rs 3.28 crore, based on the figures cited in the post.
DCRs are used in the reporting and collection process associated with the movement or sale of stone materials. The revenue figures therefore reflect the importance of district-level monitoring in a sector linked to construction inputs and local government income. The source report did not provide a detailed breakdown of the number of receipts issued, the volume of stone covered, or the specific administrative measures that led to the increase.
Adhikari said he was optimistic that the state would cross a monthly target of Rs 100 crore from stone revenue. The target would require the collection reported during the first 11 days of October to continue through the remainder of the month, although the post did not set out a month-end collection schedule or provide a comparison with earlier monthly totals beyond October last year.
The post also framed the increase as an outcome of tighter administration and improved discipline in revenue collection. “Transparent administration and discipline in revenue collection—this is our commitment,” Adhikari said, while thanking the Birbhum district administration and the Land Office.
The collection figures and the stated monthly target now make the district administration’s subsequent revenue reporting the next significant milestone. No further details on enforcement procedures, quarry-level operations or the allocation of the collected revenue were provided in the report.
