A landowner’s house in Paikarapur village on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar was allegedly attacked with bombs after the family objected to the unauthorised excavation and transportation of soil from a local plot, according to a report by Pragativadi. No fatalities or major injuries were reported, but the explosion caused panic in the area.
The incident took place under the jurisdiction of Chandaka Police Station. The report said a group of miscreants was carrying out soil excavation and transporting the material without permission when the landowner and family members opposed the activity. The group allegedly responded by targeting the residence and detonating bombs.
The blast brought police personnel from Chandaka Police Station to the village after residents informed the authorities. Police have registered a case and begun an investigation to identify and arrest those responsible for the attack, the report said.
The incident has brought renewed attention to disputes over soil excavation on the expanding outskirts of Bhubaneswar. The report described the alleged operators as a soil mafia and said residents have expressed fear and resentment over repeated explosive attacks and the perceived impunity of such groups in suburban areas.
Soil excavation and transport can affect privately held plots and the surrounding local environment, while disputes over access, ownership and permissions can quickly become public-order issues when enforcement is delayed or contested. In Paikarapur, the conflict escalated from an objection to alleged unauthorised activity into an attack on a family home, according to the available account.
The police investigation will determine the identities of the alleged attackers, the circumstances surrounding the use of explosives and the precise legal provisions applicable to the case. Authorities are expected to pursue the suspects as part of the case registered at Chandaka Police Station.
