Bengaluru Traffic Park Brings Safer Road Training to Thanisandra

Bengaluru traffic park site at Thanisandra planned for practical road-safety training

Bengaluru Home Minister Priyank Kharge laid the foundation stone for a new traffic park at Thanisandra on Thursday, October 15, and flagged off 20 traffic police patrol motorcycles as part of a road-safety and traffic-management initiative for the city. Both projects are being funded by the Honda India Foundation under its corporate social responsibility programme, with a combined outlay of ₹1.66 crore.

The Bengaluru traffic park is being built on the premises of the Traffic Training and Road Safety Institute in Thanisandra. It will include model roads, junctions, traffic signals, road signs and pedestrian crossings to give schoolchildren and members of the public practical exposure to common road conditions.

The facility is intended to serve schoolchildren and residents of north Bengaluru by promoting road-safety awareness and safe road-use habits. The initiative places practical learning alongside formal enforcement, allowing participants to understand road rules through a simulated street environment.

The Honda India Foundation is contributing ₹1 crore towards establishing the traffic park and ₹66 lakh for the purchase of the 20 patrol motorcycles. The motorcycles are equipped with sirens, public announcement systems, flashing warning lights and safety helmets.

According to the report, the motorcycles are expected to strengthen traffic police patrolling, improve responses to emergencies and accidents, support traffic regulation and improve communication with road users. Their deployment comes as Bengaluru continues to experience growing traffic pressure across its road network.

Mr. Kharge said road safety was a collective responsibility and called for strict adherence to traffic rules, greater attention to pedestrian safety and responsible behaviour by all road users. He also said collaboration between government departments and private organisations could strengthen road-safety initiatives, public awareness and traffic management.

Bengaluru Traffic Police has trained 2,53,245 schoolchildren in road safety so far in 2026 under the Students’ Association for Road Safety initiative. Mr. Kharge said such programmes needed to be expanded and that road safety should become part of everyday life. He identified schools, parents, police and the wider public as participants in building a safer traffic system.

The Minister also stressed the importance of sustained awareness campaigns, preventive measures to curb accidents and prompt police assistance during emergencies. Following the Thanisandra programme, he flagged off a unity parade and motorcycle rally in front of Vidhana Soudha as part of a campaign against narcotic drugs.
