A Bengaluru traffic diversion will affect Basavanagar Main Road from October 10 for 20 days as the Greater Bengaluru Authority takes up construction of a bridge across a canal linked to Vibhutipura Lake, according to a report by Prajavani.
The restrictions will apply in the jurisdiction of the HAL Airport Traffic Police Station. Heavy goods vehicles, BMTC buses, school buses and light goods vehicles travelling from Marathahalli, HAL, Vibhutipura and Basavanagar towards Science City, Kaggadasapura, Malleshpalya and BEML will be temporarily barred from using the affected stretch.
All categories of vehicles travelling in the opposite direction—from Science City, Kaggadasapura, Malleshpalya and BEML towards Vibhutipura, Basavanagar, HAL and Marathahalli—will also face a temporary restriction on the route.
For heavy goods vehicles, BMTC buses, school buses and light goods vehicles travelling towards Science City, Kaggadasapura, Malleshpalya and BEML, the designated alternative route will run through Old Airport Main Road. Vehicles must turn right at the Suranjandas Road Bridge junction and continue along Suranjandas Road to BEML Junction.
At BEML Junction, vehicles will turn right towards Malleshpalya Main Road before continuing to Science City and Kaggadasapura. The diversion is expected to alter the movement of public transport, school traffic and commercial vehicles between the eastern Bengaluru neighbourhoods connected by Basavanagar Main Road.
Vehicles travelling in the reverse direction—from Science City, Kaggadasapura, Malleshpalya and BEML towards Vibhutipur, Basavanagar, HAL and Marathahalli—must use Malleshpalya Main Road to reach BEML Junction. They will then turn left onto Suranjandas Road and continue to the Suranjandas Junction.
From the junction, vehicles must turn left and use Old Airport Road to reach Vibhutipura, Basavanagar, HAL and Marathahalli. The route instructions separate the two directions of traffic and place the movement of larger and public-service vehicles on the Old Airport Road–Suranjandas Road–BEML Junction network.
The restrictions are linked to bridge construction across the canal near Vibhutipura Lake. The work will temporarily close or limit use of Basavanagar Main Road while the Greater Bengaluru Authority carries out the construction. The traffic changes are scheduled to remain in force for 20 days beginning October 10.
