Bengaluru traffic curbs will be imposed for 20 days from October 10 on Basavanagar Main Road as construction begins on a bridge over the Vibhutipura Lake stormwater drain, the Deccan Herald reported. The restrictions will affect vehicles travelling between Marathahalli, HAL, Vibhutipura, Basavanagar, Vignan Nagar, Kaggadasapura, Malleshpalya and BEML.
The work falls within the jurisdiction of the HAL traffic police. During the restriction period, heavy goods vehicles, BMTC buses, school buses and light goods vehicles travelling from Marathahalli, HAL, Vibhutipura and Basavanagar towards Vignan Nagar, Kaggadasapura, Malleshpalya and BEML will be diverted.
Traffic movement in the opposite direction will also be restricted for all vehicles. The measures are intended to allow bridge construction over the stormwater drain while keeping vehicles away from the affected stretch of Basavanagar Main Road.
Vehicles heading towards Vignan Nagar, Kaggadasapura, Malleshpalya and BEML from Marathahalli, HAL, Vibhutipura and Basavanagar have been directed to use Old Airport Main Road. They must turn right near the Suranjan Das Road Bridge Junction and continue via Suranjan Das Road to BEML Junction.
From BEML Junction, vehicles can turn right onto Malleshpalya Main Road to reach Vignan Nagar and Kaggadasapura. The diversion will move traffic away from the construction location and connect the affected western and eastern approaches through Old Airport Road, Suranjan Das Road and Malleshpalya Main Road.
For vehicles travelling in the reverse direction—from Vignan Nagar, Kaggadasapura, Malleshpalya and BEML towards Vibhutipura, Basavanagar, HAL and Marathahalli—the designated route is Malleshpalya Main Road to BEML Junction. Vehicles must then turn left onto Suranjan Das Road and continue to Suranjan Das Junction.
At Suranjan Das Junction, vehicles can turn left onto Old Airport Road towards Vibhutipura, Basavanagar, HAL and Marathahalli. The restrictions are particularly relevant for public transport, school buses and goods vehicles, which will have to use the longer designated route during the construction period.
The traffic curbs are linked to civic work on a bridge crossing the Vibhutipura Lake stormwater drain. The affected network connects residential areas, employment hubs, institutional destinations and industrial locations around the HAL and eastern Bengaluru corridor. Commuters using the route have been advised to account for the diversion while the work is under way.
The restrictions will remain in place for 20 days from October 10, according to the traffic information reported by the Deccan Herald. The next operational milestone is the completion of the announced bridge construction period and the subsequent restoration of normal movement on Basavanagar Main Road.
