Bengaluru Pub Assault Case: IAS Officer, 3 Others Booked

Bengaluru pub assault case linked to a late-night police inspection in central Bengaluru

An IAS officer from Andhra Pradesh and three others have been booked for allegedly assaulting, threatening and obstructing police personnel during a late-night inspection at a Bengaluru pub on October 10, according to an FIR registered at the Cubbon Park police station.

The case names Vikas Marmat, special officer of the Kuppam Area Development Authority, along with Abhay Uday Singh, Nitish and Roshan. The complaint was filed by Police Inspector Arun Salunke of the Central Crime Branch’s Special Enquiry Wing.

According to the complaint, Salunke and his team were conducting inspections of bars and restaurants in the Cubbon Park and Ashok Nagar police station limits on the directions of the Bengaluru City police commissioner. The inspections included checking customers’ identity cards and verifying their ages.

The police team reached Cavour Bar and Restaurant, which falls within the Cubbon Park police station limits, at around 1.30 am. The FIR states that four men who had come to the bar became involved in a dispute over what the complaint described as a trivial matter. They allegedly verbally abused the complainant and other police personnel before assaulting and threatening them.

The complaint further alleges that the four men obstructed the officers from carrying out their official duties. Salunke reportedly sought medical treatment after the alleged assault and approached the police station after receiving treatment and rest. The FIR states that he had been on duty throughout October 9 and submitted the complaint after the treatment.

Police have registered the case under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita relating to voluntarily causing hurt, criminal intimidation, and assault or criminal force used to deter a public servant from discharging official duties, among other sections.

The case has emerged from a wider late-night inspection exercise covering bars and restaurants in two central Bengaluru police station jurisdictions. Such inspections involve checks linked to customer identity and age verification, placing police teams directly inside the city’s nightlife and hospitality establishments during operating hours.

The police have not yet clarified whether the accused were intoxicated at the time of the incident. No statement from the accused or a separate account of the alleged confrontation was included in the FIR-based report. The police are yet to issue a detailed statement on the investigation or confirm any further action against the four men.
