Bengaluru Police Housing Gets 128 New Units Under ₹41.5-Crore Project

Karnataka Home Minister Priyank Kharge has inaugurated a 128-unit housing complex for police constables near Anand Rao Circle in Bengaluru’s Gandhinagar Assembly constituency, as the state government moves to strengthen residential facilities and welfare support for police personnel.

The complex, built under the Police Gruha 2025 scheme, consists of two residential blocks with 64 units each. Each block has a ground floor and seven upper floors. The estimated cost of the project is ₹41.50 crore, while the total built-up area is 11,944.30 square metres, according to details shared at the inauguration.

Kharge said the government would continue taking steps to improve housing and welfare facilities for police personnel. He said providing a supportive environment for the families of personnel who risk their lives to maintain public safety was the government’s responsibility.

The minister also said the newly constructed homes had been equipped with necessary infrastructure. The project is intended to provide residential accommodation for constables and their families in a central Bengaluru location, reducing dependence on inadequate or ageing housing stock.

Dinesh Gundu Rao, the local legislator who presided over the event, said police personnel worked throughout the day and needed a peaceful home environment after returning from duty. He said he had taken an interest in the construction of the complex and had regularly reviewed the progress of the work.

Rao said the new homes had been designed to provide adequate air and natural light. He also said a proposal had been sent to the Chief Minister and the Home Minister for the redevelopment of the older residential area located next to the new complex. According to Rao, the proposal had received a positive response and approval was expected soon.

The inauguration brings attention to the pressure on public agencies to provide housing for frontline employees in expanding cities. Police accommodation is not only a welfare issue but also a question of how essential public services are supported through urban land, construction and infrastructure investment. The supplied report did not provide details on the allocation process, handover schedule or the condition of other police housing facilities across Bengaluru.

Bengaluru Central MP P. C. Mohan, Rajya Sabha member Mansoor Ali Khan, Director General and Inspector General of Police M. A. Saleem, Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh and Karnataka State Police Housing and Infrastructure Development Corporation chairman Arun Chakravarthy attended the event.

The state government’s next stated step is to consider permission for rebuilding the adjoining old police residential area, while the newly inaugurated complex is expected to add 128 units to the department’s housing stock.
