Bengaluru Orders Urgent Kanteerava Studio Road Repairs

Kanteerava Studio Road repairs underway on a damaged Bengaluru carriageway

Bengaluru civic authorities have ordered urgent repairs on the crater-hit Kanteerava Studio Road, while directing officials to speed up land acquisition and preparatory work for the Jalahalli Cross underpass and other road projects in west Bengaluru.

Greater Bengaluru Authority chief commissioner Maheshwar Rao issued the instructions during an inspection of several locations on Thursday, days after a deep crater on the road attracted public attention. The damaged stretch lies between Surana College and Nandini Layout and has been the subject of complaints from residents and commuters.

Rao directed engineers to complete pothole-filling work immediately and repair the remaining damaged portions at the earliest. According to BBMP officials, work had already begun on one side of the road. Engineers told the chief commissioner that, subject to weather conditions, repairs on the remaining section would be carried out at night.

The road damage emerged after heavy rain, adding to concerns over the condition of a route used by local traffic in west Bengaluru. The instructions focus on restoring the carriageway and addressing the damaged portions rather than waiting for a broader road intervention.

During the same inspection, Rao reviewed the proposed Jalahalli Cross underpass, which is intended to ease traffic congestion in the area. Officials informed him that 48 properties are required for the project and that 22 had already been acquired. Rao directed them to accelerate the acquisition of the remaining 26 properties and begin construction at the earliest.

He also ordered officials to build a service road on land already acquired for the underpass project. The interim road is intended to facilitate traffic movement before construction of the main underpass works begins.

The inspection also covered the planned white-topping of a 2.5-km stretch from NTTF via Sonal Garments to TVS Cross Junction. Rao directed officials to fast-track the project and begin work after ongoing Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board pipeline-laying activities are completed.

In Peenya Industrial Area, the chief commissioner instructed officials to clear waste dumped along roadsides and put measures in place to prevent fresh dumping at the location. The directions place road maintenance, project preparation and roadside waste management within the same inspection exercise, reflecting the range of civic issues affecting the industrial and residential areas of west Bengaluru.

The immediate next steps are the completion of pothole repairs on Kanteerava Studio Road, the acquisition of the remaining 26 properties for the Jalahalli Cross underpass, construction of the interim service road and coordination between road and pipeline works before the white-topping project begins.
