Bengaluru North Corporation Targets Garbage Gaps With Weekly Phone-In

Bengaluru’s North City Corporation will hold a dedicated phone-in programme every Tuesday to receive residents’ complaints about solid waste management, as it also rolls out micro-plans intended to improve door-to-door collection and street cleaning across its seven divisions.

The phone-in will operate from 7.30 a.m. to 9.30 a.m. and will be led by the Corporation’s joint commissioners. Residents can raise complaints about the timing of waste collection vehicles, the services of pourakarmikas, waste collection arrangements in their areas and problems related to waste disposal.

The initiative comes amid continuing complaints about garbage collection in the northern parts of Bengaluru. By creating a fixed weekly window for waste-related grievances, the Corporation is separating solid waste complaints from its broader municipal response system and assigning them to senior officials.

The Corporation has also prepared micro-plans for all seven divisions to coordinate waste collection routes and street-cleaning operations. Corporation Commissioner Pommala Sunil Kumar said the plans were designed to coordinate the routes of auto-tippers and pourakarmikas and to identify and manage bulk waste generators.

According to the Commissioner, the plans take into account the number of households and commercial establishments, population, and the quantity and type of waste generated in each area. They also map the routes of pourakarmikas and auto-tippers, compactors, mini transfer stations, commercial areas, garbage blackspots and densely populated residential areas.

The mapping exercise provides the Corporation with an area-level operational picture of where waste is generated, how it is collected and where service gaps are being reported. It also links collection routes with the location of commercial areas, high-density neighbourhoods and sites identified as garbage blackspots.

Residents can contact the Corporation’s solid waste management control room on 9480685705, which is available for mobile and WhatsApp complaints. Complaints can also be registered through the landline numbers 080-22975936 and 080-23636671.

The weekly phone-in and the micro-plans are the Corporation’s stated measures for improving complaint handling, route coordination and street-cleaning coverage. The Tuesday sessions will provide the next formal channel for residents to report service problems directly to the joint commissioners.
