Bengaluru liquor sale curbs will begin on October 21 in parts of the city for Dasara processions and biennial legislative council elections, with another dry-day restriction scheduled in Ulsoor Gate on October 27 for vote counting.
The restrictions will apply to liquor shops, bars, pubs and other establishments that sell alcohol. Hotels and restaurants will be allowed to provide food during the restricted periods, according to two orders issued by Bengaluru police commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh on Monday.
For Dasara celebrations and processions, liquor sales will be prohibited from noon on October 21 until 1am on October 22 in the jurisdiction of the RT Nagar, JC Nagar and Hebbal police stations.
A separate restriction linked to the biennial elections for the Bengaluru teachers’ constituency and the Karnataka south-east graduates’ constituency will remain in force from 4pm on October 21 until 4pm on October 23.
The election-related dry day will cover the central, east, west, north, south, southeast, southwest, northwest and northeast divisions, along with Whitefield and Electronics City. The restriction covers liquor sales in establishments operating within these police divisions.
Another restriction will be imposed during the vote-counting process on October 27. Liquor sales will be prohibited from 6am until 11.59pm within the jurisdiction of the Ulsoor Gate police station.
The orders mean that businesses selling alcohol in the specified police jurisdictions will need to suspend sales during the notified windows, while the restrictions will not prevent hotels and restaurants from serving food. The police orders identify separate enforcement periods for the Dasara events, the elections and the counting process.
