Bengaluru Garbage Complaints Get Weekly Phone-In as North Corporation Maps Waste Routes

Bengaluru North City Corporation will hold a weekly phone-in programme every Tuesday to receive residents’ complaints about garbage collection and solid-waste services, as the civic body responds to continuing problems with waste collection across its seven divisions.

The programme will run from 7.30 a.m. to 9.30 a.m. and will be led by the Corporation’s joint commissioners. Residents can report delays or changes in the timing of waste collection vehicles, issues involving pourakarmikas, gaps in waste collection arrangements and problems related to waste disposal.

The initiative is focused exclusively on solid-waste management complaints. Residents can contact the Corporation’s control room on 9480685705, including through WhatsApp, or use the landline numbers 080-22975936 and 080-23636671.

The Corporation has also prepared micro-plans for all seven divisions to reorganise door-to-door waste collection and street cleaning. Corporation Commissioner Pommala Sunil Kumar said the plans are intended to coordinate the routes of auto-tippers and pourakarmikas, while also identifying and managing bulk waste generators.

According to the Commissioner, the plans take into account the number of households and commercial establishments in each area, along with population levels and the quantity and type of waste generated. This links the planned collection routes to the different levels and patterns of waste generation across residential and commercial areas.

The micro-plans also map the routes followed by pourakarmikas and auto-tippers, as well as the locations of compactors, mini transfer stations, commercial areas, garbage blackspots and densely populated residential neighbourhoods. These details are intended to give the Corporation a more localised view of where collection and street-cleaning operations are taking place.

The phone-in programme creates a fixed weekly channel for residents to raise service complaints directly with senior civic officials. The complaints will cover both the operational timing of collection vehicles and broader concerns about how waste is collected, handled and disposed of in neighbourhoods.

The move comes as complaints about garbage collection continue to be reported in the Corporation’s jurisdiction. By combining a recurring grievance mechanism with division-level micro-plans, the civic body is addressing both immediate service complaints and the organisation of collection routes. The Corporation has not announced a separate deadline for completing changes based on the complaints received through the programme.

Residents can begin using the phone-in channel during the Tuesday morning window, while the control room numbers are available for solid-waste management complaints. The next operational step is the implementation of the micro-plans across the Corporation’s seven divisions.
