Bengaluru Garbage Complaints Get Weekly Corporation Phone-In

Bengaluru’s North City Corporation will hold a weekly phone-in programme to address garbage-related complaints, while introducing micro-plans across its seven divisions to coordinate door-to-door waste collection and street cleaning.

The phone-in will be held every Tuesday from 7.30 a.m. to 9.30 a.m. and will focus exclusively on solid waste management issues. Residents can raise complaints about the timing of waste collection vehicles, the services of pourakarmikas, waste collection arrangements in their neighbourhoods and problems with waste disposal.

The programme will be led by the Corporation’s joint commissioners. Residents can contact the civic body’s control room on 9480685705 through mobile or WhatsApp. Complaints can also be registered through the landline numbers 080-22975936 and 080-23636671.

The initiative comes amid continuing complaints about garbage collection in the city. Alongside the phone-in, the Corporation has prepared micro-plans for all seven divisions to improve the coordination of waste collection and street cleaning operations.

Corporation Commissioner Pommala Sunil Kumar said the plans are intended to coordinate the routes of auto-tippers and pourakarmikas and identify and manage bulk waste generators. The plans have been prepared using details on the number of households and commercial establishments, population, and the quantity and type of waste generated in each area.

The plans also map the routes of pourakarmikas and auto-tippers, compactors, mini transfer stations, commercial areas, garbage blackspots and densely populated residential areas, the Commissioner said. These details are intended to give the civic administration an area-wise view of waste generation and the movement of collection vehicles and sanitation workers.

The Corporation’s decision places resident complaints alongside route planning as part of its response to solid waste management problems. Complaints about vehicle timings, collection arrangements and disposal will be received through the dedicated Tuesday programme, while the micro-plans will provide an operational framework for collection and street-cleaning activities across the seven divisions.

The phone-in programme is scheduled to operate every Tuesday, with residents able to contact the Corporation during the two-hour window. The civic body has not provided, in the announcement, a separate timeline for reviewing the micro-plans or details of any changes to existing waste collection schedules.
