Bengaluru Flyover Tenders Cancelled, Eight Projects Face Rebid

Bengaluru flyover construction corridor with heavy traffic and elevated road infrastructure

Bengaluru’s Urban Development Department has cancelled tenders for eight proposed flyovers, grade separators and elevated road projects after finding shortcomings in the tender documents, according to a report by Vijay Karnataka. Bengaluru Smart Infrastructure Limited has been directed to submit fresh tenders with corrected documentation.

The cancelled tender package covers projects planned across several high-traffic corridors in the city. The listed works include the MEI Junction grade separator, a flyover at Minerva Circle, the Millers Road flyover and an elevated road between Hosur Road and Shoolay Circle.

The package also includes a project from Kanakapura Road to Konanakunte Cross, a flyover connecting Old Madras Road and Silk Board, the Silk Board–Electronic City flyover and an elevated route from Old Madras Road to Hosur Road via Indiranagar. The report did not specify a fresh tender deadline or an implementation timeline for the projects.

The cancellation places the immediate focus on the tendering process rather than on a decision to abandon the proposed road infrastructure. The Urban Development Department has instructed Bengaluru Smart Infrastructure Limited to issue the tenders again after correcting the deficiencies in the documents.

The projects form part of a wider effort to address congestion at some of Bengaluru’s busiest junctions through grade separation and elevated road infrastructure. Their proposed locations span central, southern and eastern parts of the city, including corridors linked to Hosur Road, Silk Board, Electronic City, Kanakapura Road and Old Madras Road.

The report also carried comments from K. Radhakrishna Holla, president of the Karnataka State Travels Owners’ Association, who argued that Bengaluru needs large-scale infrastructure alongside improvements to public transport. Holla said decisions on major projects should consider future metropolitan requirements, scientific studies, environmental protection, transparency and public interest.

Holla further called for the development of metro services, suburban rail, public transport and parking facilities alongside flyovers and tunnel roads. His comments were made in the context of a public debate over whether road congestion should be addressed through elevated and underground infrastructure or through other transport interventions.

The immediate next step is the preparation and submission of corrected tender documents by Bengaluru Smart Infrastructure Limited. Until the rebidding process is completed, the report provides no confirmed construction start date for any of the eight projects.
