Bengaluru Construction-Site Blast Injures Two Workers in Pulakeshinagar

Bengaluru construction-site blast location being examined by police in Pulakeshinagar

A blast at an under-construction building in Bengaluru’s Pulakeshinagar injured two workers on Tuesday afternoon, with police sending samples of suspected explosive material for forensic examination to determine what caused the incident.

The two labourers suffered burn injuries and were admitted to Victoria Hospital, according to a report by Prajavani. The incident took place within the limits of the Pulakeshinagar police station on October 20.

Police have registered a suo motu case and begun an investigation. Samples of explosive material recovered from the site have been collected and sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), whose report is expected to establish the nature of the material and the precise cause of the blast.

Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the explosion was linked to construction activity, the storage or handling of material at the site, or another cause. The case remains under investigation, and no conclusion has been announced regarding how the material reached the premises or what triggered the blast.

The incident highlights the immediate safety risks associated with active construction sites in dense urban neighbourhoods, where workers, nearby residents and passers-by may be exposed to stored materials, unfinished structures and construction operations. However, the available information does not establish whether any safety protocol was breached at the Bengaluru site.

Home Minister G Parameshwara appealed to the public not to pay attention to rumours while the investigation continues. The police are expected to rely on the FSL findings and their examination of the site as they work to establish the cause of the explosion and determine whether further action is required.

The next formal development in the case will be the forensic assessment of the samples collected from the construction site. Until that report is received, the cause of the blast remains unconfirmed.
