Bengaluru Civic Issues Mount as Roads, Toilets and Power Safety Fail

Pothole-filled Bengaluru road highlighting the city's civic infrastructure problems

Bengaluru residents have raised a series of civic complaints across the city, citing pothole-ridden roads, a locked public toilet, unfinished asphalting, an exposed transformer, a dangerous government building, footpath encroachment and uncleared waste.

The complaints, published by Prajavani on October 12, cover several areas and point to problems affecting daily travel, pedestrian safety, public sanitation and neighbourhood services. Residents have sought urgent action from the concerned civic and utility authorities.

On Mysuru Road, residents said the stretch between Jnanabharathi Circle and the Rajarajeshwari Nagar Gate is filled with potholes. M. Lingaraju Gowda of Mallathahalli said the road carries heavy traffic and that vehicles often travel at speed, making accidents common. He called for immediate asphalting to restore smoother movement.

A separate complaint concerns a public toilet on Dhanvanthari Road in front of the Upparpet police station. The road connects Kempegowda Bus Station and Krantivira Sangolli Rayanna railway station and is used by travellers arriving from different parts of the state. Shivaprasad S., a motorist, said the toilet has separate facilities for women and men but remains locked, leaving people without another public facility within about a one-kilometre radius. He said people are urinating on the footpath, creating an odour and making the area difficult to use, and requested that the toilet be reopened and the surrounding area cleaned.

In the Yeshwanthpur Assembly constituency, V. Shivakumar of Brindavan Layout said gravel was laid on the road in Karihobanahalli along the Andrahalli Main Road two months ago, but the road has not yet been asphalted. He said two-wheeler users are facing difficulty on the unfinished surface.

Another safety complaint relates to a transformer near Swathi Hotel on the road from Ambedkar College Circle towards Nagarabhavi in the Rajarajeshwari Nagar Assembly constituency. H. Thukaram of Mallathahalli said the transformer is positioned at a low level and has no protective cover, placing it within the reach of young children. He requested that a safety enclosure be installed.

Residents have also flagged a deteriorating government building near Nagawara bus stop. Pattadi A. Basavaraj said the building is in a crowded area, has cracks at the lower portion and appears structurally weakened. He said a request had already been submitted to the civic body for its removal but had not produced results, and urged officials to take immediate action in the public interest.

At Palace Guttahalli’s Second Main Road, Pushpa Shriram said a footpath near a garage opposite the Vinayaka Circle temple has been encroached upon, with two-wheelers being parked on it. She said pedestrians are forced to walk on the road, where fast-moving vehicles create a risk of accidents.

A final complaint concerns a garbage pile outside Deena Seva School in Kamalanagar ward. Local resident Bhima Pratap said waste is being dumped near the area where schoolchildren eat their midday meal. He requested that the garbage be removed and steps taken to prevent further dumping. The report does not record responses or action timelines from the civic or utility authorities on the complaints.
