A Bengaluru car fire near the Police Commissioner’s office on Infantry Road damaged a Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder on Saturday morning and temporarily disrupted traffic near Sparsh Hospital. The vehicle’s sole occupant escaped safely, and no casualties were reported.
According to Cubbon Park traffic police, smoke and flames began coming from the engine of the red car at around 9.40 am while it was near the hospital, opposite the Bengaluru Police Commissioner’s office. The driver immediately left the vehicle after noticing the fire.
People in the vicinity attempted to control the flames, but the fire spread rapidly and fully damaged the car. Fire and emergency services personnel reached the location and assessed the incident, while traffic police managed the situation on the busy road.
The exact cause of the blaze has not been established. Personnel are examining whether a battery malfunction, short circuit or another technical fault may have triggered the fire. Police are also collecting information from the driver and the vehicle owner to establish the sequence of events.
The location is part of a high-activity central Bengaluru corridor, with the damaged vehicle affecting movement on Infantry Road for some time. The incident occurred close to a hospital and a major police office, although the report did not indicate any damage to nearby buildings or injuries to people in the area.
The incident also brought emergency response activity to a road carrying regular traffic through the central city. The driver’s quick exit prevented injuries, while the response by people nearby, traffic police and emergency services helped manage the immediate danger.
Police and emergency personnel are continuing to examine the vehicle and gather details about the fire. Further findings will determine whether the blaze was linked to an electrical, battery-related or other technical fault.
