A fire broke out in an apartment on the eighth floor of Brigade 7 Gardens on Bengaluru’s Uttarahalli Main Road on Wednesday afternoon, prompting a four-hour operation by fire and emergency personnel. The blaze was brought under control between noon and 4pm, according to the report.
Furniture, electronic equipment, clothes and documents inside the flat were destroyed in the incident. Thick smoke was visible from the apartment after the fire started, alerting residents of neighbouring flats, who informed the fire department.
The flat’s owner had reportedly lit a lamp in the prayer room before leaving for work on Wednesday morning. The lamp may have started the fire, but the cause has not been conclusively established. Police said an investigation was being conducted on the basis of information provided by the flat owner.
The affected apartment was located in the middle section of the building’s eighth floor, which created difficulties for the fire-service operation. Fire personnel worked at the site for several hours before successfully extinguishing the flames. The report did not mention any deaths or injuries.
Subramanyapura police visited the apartment and inspected the site. Their inquiry is expected to examine the circumstances in which the fire began, the extent of damage inside the flat and the sequence of events before neighbouring residents raised the alarm.
The incident also highlighted the operational challenges involved in responding to fires in high-rise apartment buildings, where the location of a flat, smoke spread and access to the affected floor can influence firefighting efforts. In this case, residents’ observation of the smoke and prompt communication with emergency personnel helped trigger the response.
Police have not announced a final finding on the source of the fire. Further details will depend on the ongoing inspection and investigation at the apartment complex.
