Bengaluru South City Corporation has launched a pilot AI-based waste management system that has identified around 2,000 civic issues, including nearly 1,000 garbage-related black spots, across roads in its jurisdiction.
The system, developed in association with Chitragupt Urban Technologies Pvt Ltd, uses an AI-enabled camera vehicle to survey roads, identify civic problems and generate digital tickets for follow-up. The vehicle covered 150 km of the 311 km of arterial and sub-arterial roads under the corporation last month.
Besides waste black spots, the survey detected potholes, footpath encroachments, construction debris and unauthorised optical-fibre cables. Each identified issue was assigned a digital ticket number, allowing officials to track it through the corporation’s technology platform.
Garbage-related complaints will be assigned to Junior Health Inspectors and Marshals through the Anveshak mobile application. Officials are required to check the details on the application dashboard, visit the location and take corrective action. A ticket can be closed only after a geo-tagged photograph is uploaded from within 50 metres of the identified location, officials said.
Corporation Commissioner K.N. Ramesh has directed Marshals to resolve the waste-related issues within 10 days. A workshop was also conducted for Marshals and Junior Health Inspectors to familiarise them with the application and the new workflow.
The corporation said the system would help document civic work with evidence and improve transparency. It is also intended to identify problems before residents submit complaints, shifting part of the process from response after complaints to regular field detection.
The pilot’s camera vehicle will re-inspect previously surveyed locations every 30 days and record new issues. The corporation will review the pilot project and staff performance before deciding whether to expand the system across the entire Bengaluru South City Corporation.
