The Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation has stepped up preparations for Bathukamma celebrations in Hyderabad, directing civic officials to strengthen sanitation, lighting, drinking water, traffic management and public safety arrangements before large crowds gather at event venues.
Municipal commissioner T Vinay Krishna Reddy issued the instructions on Thursday during a coordination meeting with key civic body departments. The meeting reviewed the services required at celebration venues and in surrounding areas, according to a press release issued by the civic body.
Sanitation teams have been asked to operate before, during and after the celebrations. The corporation will deploy special staff for immediate waste collection and removal at venues, while additional sanitation measures are to be introduced wherever necessary. Officials also reviewed cleanliness requirements in parks and areas around the event locations.
The commissioner directed officials to ensure essential infrastructure, adequate lighting, drinking water and sanitation facilities for women, families and devotees attending the celebrations. Staff have been instructed to remain at venues and continuously monitor conditions during the festivities.
The preparations also include road maintenance and traffic regulation in areas expected to see increased movement. Officials were told to ensure smooth vehicular movement and put public safety arrangements in place where crowd and traffic levels are likely to rise.
The civic body’s instructions place multiple municipal functions under a coordinated operational plan. Sanitation, engineering, water supply, street lighting, traffic management and venue monitoring will need to work together to maintain public amenities as celebrations take place across areas under the corporation.
The commissioner also asked all departments to coordinate for the smooth conduct of the events. The corporation’s directions focus on preventing inconvenience to visitors and residents through advance deployment, continuous monitoring and prompt removal of waste at celebration locations.
