Batasingaram Flyover Crash Injures 15 RTC Bus Passengers

Emergency response after a Batasingaram flyover accident involving a bus and cement lorry

Fifteen passengers were injured when a Telangana State Road Transport Corporation bus travelling from Khammam to Hyderabad rammed into a cement lorry from behind while entering the Batasingaram flyover near Abdullapurmet in the early hours of Monday, according to Abdullapurmet police. Two women suffered fractures, while the other injured passengers sustained minor cuts and bruises.

The collision occurred at around 3 am. Police said the bus was carrying passengers towards Hyderabad when it struck the lorry. The impact injured 15 people on board, including Bandaru Thirupathamma, 65, and Duggi Laxmi, 38, who were travelling with family members, including two children.

Thirupathamma suffered fractures to both legs, while Laxmi sustained fractures to her right wrist and collarbone. Both women were undergoing treatment at Osmania General Hospital in Hyderabad. The remaining injured passengers were reported to have suffered minor injuries, and none was reported to be in a serious condition.

The crash involved a passenger bus and a cement lorry on the flyover approach, bringing attention to the risks faced by long-distance and intercity bus passengers on roads used by heavy vehicles during night and early-morning hours. The available report does not establish whether the lorry was stationary or moving at the time of the collision, nor does it provide details about road lighting, traffic conditions or visibility at the location.

Police suspect that overspeeding may have caused the accident. The wording indicates that this remains part of the investigation and has not been established as the final cause of the crash. Other factors, including the circumstances in which the bus approached the lorry, are yet to be determined.

Abdullapurmet police registered a non-fatal road accident case. Further investigation is underway, while the injured passengers continue to receive medical treatment. No information was provided on the condition of the lorry driver or on any traffic disruption following the collision.
