A severe Barapullah traffic jam on Delhi’s Phase-3 flyover is causing confusion for commuters after Google Maps continued to show the Mayur Vihar-to-AIIMS carriageway as clear during peak hours, according to a report by Jagran – New Delhi. Delhi Traffic Police issued an advisory on Tuesday, urged drivers to use alternative routes and said it had reminded Google to update the live traffic information.
The affected stretch is the Barapullah Phase-3 flyover carrying traffic from Mayur Vihar towards AIIMS. The traffic congestion is reported to be particularly severe between 9 am and 1 pm, when the route continues to appear open on Google Maps despite the presence of a major jam. Drivers relying on the navigation service are therefore reaching the flyover after being shown inaccurate traffic conditions.
Delhi Traffic Police has advised motorists approaching Barapullah from the Noida Link Road and Mayur Vihar side to use an alternative route towards NH-24 and the DND corridor. The diversion is intended to reduce the volume entering the congested Phase-3 stretch and prevent additional vehicles from being directed into the affected section.
The police advisory was issued on X on Tuesday as part of the traffic management response. The department has also sent a reminder to Google about the failure to reflect the congestion in real time on its map service. The report does not indicate that Google has yet confirmed a correction or provided a timeline for updating the route information.
Traffic personnel have been deployed at key points to manage the flow manually as conditions change. The police are also monitoring the congestion using drones and issuing instructions to officers stationed at important junctions when the traffic situation worsens. These measures are being used alongside the diversion towards NH-24 and DND.
The incident highlights the operational difficulty created when digital navigation information does not match conditions on the road. For commuters, the problem is not only the delay on the flyover but also the risk of being directed towards a route that traffic authorities are actively trying to manage and divert. In this case, the police response combines on-ground traffic control with an attempt to correct the digital information that is influencing driver decisions.
The advisory remains focused on the peak period between 9 am and 1 pm, when commuters have been asked to avoid the affected Barapullah Phase-3 route and follow the suggested alternatives. Delhi Traffic Police is continuing drone-based monitoring, manual regulation and communication with Google on the map update.
