Attibele Petrol Pump Fire Injures Worker After Car Crash

Firefighters respond to the Attibele petrol pump fire after a car crashed into the fuel station.

A car crashed into an HP petrol station near Attibele on the Bengaluru-Tamil Nadu border on October 8, triggering a fire that injured a petrol pump employee and caused panic among customers and staff, according to police. The driver and a woman travelling in the vehicle escaped before the car was engulfed in flames.

Police identified the driver as Sanjay and said he was allegedly travelling at high speed when he lost control of the car. The vehicle first hit petrol pump employee Guddu Kumar before crashing into the petrol dispensing unit at the station.

The impact triggered a fire involving the vehicle and the pump. The flames spread within seconds, according to the report, prompting customers and employees to move away from the area as the blaze grew at the fuel station.

Guddu Kumar suffered serious injuries to his leg and was shifted to a private hospital, where he was undergoing treatment. The driver and the woman in the car managed to get out before the vehicle caught fire completely.

Firefighting teams from three locations responded to the incident. One fire tender each from Electronics City and Anekal, along with another from Hosur in Tamil Nadu, reached the petrol station and brought the blaze under control. The response involved fire services from both sides of the State border because of the station’s location near Attibele.

Attibele police took Sanjay into custody and registered a case. Further investigation is under way to establish the circumstances leading to the crash and the fire.
