An Aroor accident on the western side of National Highway 66 left a 43-year-old motorcyclist seriously injured after a car hit his motorcycle, a power pole and another car near the Chandiroor bridge early on Friday. The crash occurred at around 5 a.m. near electric pole number 113 as both vehicles were travelling towards Ernakulam.
The injured rider was identified as Ibrahimkutty of Kunneel House in Chandiroor. He was taken to a private hospital in Ernakulam, where he was admitted for treatment. Ibrahimkutty works as an operator at the Makkah ice plant and was returning home after completing his night shift when the accident occurred.
According to the report, the car struck the Bullet motorcycle while travelling along its right side as the vehicles came down from the bridge. After the collision, the car moved towards the left side of the road, hit an iron electricity pole approximately 50 metres ahead and then crashed into another car parked nearby before overturning.
The impact bent the lower section of the electricity pole. The occupants of the car escaped with minor injuries, while the motorcyclist suffered serious injuries in the initial collision. The damage to the pole also brought an electricity infrastructure element into an accident that began on the highway carriageway.
The driver reportedly told authorities that visibility was affected by the headlights of a vehicle approaching from the opposite direction. The driver allegedly failed to notice a barricade placed at the roadside and swerved to avoid it, after which the car went out of control.
