A 35-year-old government schoolteacher was killed after a speeding truck hit the motorcycle on which she was travelling near Dhanupra in Bhojpur district on Saturday afternoon, with police examining CCTV footage to identify the vehicle and trace its driver.
The accident took place near a school and a petrol pump under the Ara Town police station area, on the busy Ara-Patna road. The deceased was identified as Tabassum Parween, daughter of Ainul Haque and a resident of Waliganj locality in Ara.
Parween was posted at an upgraded high school in Sakaddi under Koilwar block. She had attended a teachers’ training programme at a school in Kulhariya and was returning from the programme on her brother Saif Ali’s motorcycle when the collision occurred.
Arshad Warsi, a teacher who attended the same training programme, said the truck allegedly struck the motorcycle from behind while attempting to overtake it. Parween fell onto the road and was crushed under the truck, according to Warsi’s account. Her brother was travelling with her when the accident occurred.
The truck driver allegedly fled the spot after the collision. Ara Town SHO Devraj Rai and other police personnel reached the location after the incident. The police later sent Parween’s body to Ara Sadar Hospital for postmortem examination.
Rai said investigators were examining CCTV footage to identify the truck and arrest the driver involved in the accident. The police have not yet publicly identified the vehicle or announced an arrest.
The collision has renewed concerns about road safety on the Ara-Patna road, where the accident occurred near public-facing establishments including a school and a petrol pump. The available account does not establish whether road design, traffic controls, vehicle speed or other conditions contributed to the crash. Those factors will form part of the investigation if established by the authorities.
Police action is currently focused on reviewing CCTV footage, identifying the truck and tracing its driver. The postmortem at Ara Sadar Hospital and the investigation by Ara Town police are the next formal steps in the case.
