APM Terminals and SANY Marine Partner for Net Zero Ports

APM Terminals and SANY Marine have entered into a Master Framework Agreement to supply battery-electric terminal tractors across APM Terminals’ global network. This partnership aims to replace approximately 500 diesel-powered terminal tractors with electric models by 2030, aligning with APM Terminals’ commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2040.

The agreement underscores a strategic shift towards electrification in port operations, marking a pivotal step in reducing the carbon footprint of container handling equipment. By standardising equipment and scaling battery-electric solutions, APM Terminals aims to enhance operational efficiency and contribute to global decarbonisation efforts. The transition to electric terminal tractors is part of a broader sustainability initiative that includes investments in renewable energy and energy efficiency measures. APM Terminals’ Chief Operating Officer emphasised that this partnership demonstrates a proactive approach to environmental responsibility, moving beyond discussions to tangible actions.

SANY Marine’s Chief Executive Officer highlighted the significance of this collaboration, noting that it represents the largest global electric terminal truck order to date. The partnership is expected to accelerate progress towards fully decarbonised terminal operations, setting a benchmark for the industry. The agreement also reflects the growing momentum within the Zero Emission Port Alliance, co-founded by APM Terminals in December 2023. This alliance aims to foster industry-wide adoption of battery-electric container handling equipment, making it more affordable and accessible. The collaboration between APM Terminals and SANY Marine is a testament to the collective effort required to achieve zero-emission ports. As the logistics industry continues to evolve, partnerships like the one between APM Terminals and SANY Marine play a crucial role in driving the transition to sustainable and eco-friendly port operations. This initiative not only contributes to environmental goals but also sets a precedent for future collaborations aimed at achieving a net-zero emissions future.
