Anekal Heavy Rain Turns Roads Into Lakes, Disrupts Commuters

Anekal heavy rain leaves a flooded road with vehicles struggling through water.

Anekal faced widespread waterlogging and severe travel disruption after heavy rain continued for eight hours on Friday, leaving several main roads looking like lakes and making it difficult for residents, students and commuters to move through the taluk.

The rain began at around 11.30 am and continued until at least 7 pm, according to a report by Prajavani. The prolonged spell followed rain on Thursday, when residents had already faced difficulties stepping out of their homes.

Water flowed across roads in several parts of Anekal, affecting daily travel and public movement. People travelling for work and students going to college struggled to reach their destinations as roads remained inundated.

Continuous rain was reported in Chandapura, Attibele and Hebbagodi along National Highway 44, among other locations. In Chandapura, roads were submerged to such an extent that two-wheelers and cars found it difficult to pass through the affected stretches.

Electric vehicles were particularly affected, with some becoming immersed in rainwater and losing the ability to move. Visuals from the area showed people pushing stranded vehicles through the waterlogged roads.

The rain also exposed the difficulties faced by road users on stretches already affected by potholes. Riders struggled to navigate the damaged surfaces as water covered the road defects, reducing visibility of the hazards and making travel more difficult.

The disruption affected both local streets and important routes connecting Anekal’s built-up areas with the wider Bengaluru region. The report did not specify the depth of the water, the number of stranded vehicles or any official response to the flooding. It also did not provide information on when the affected roads would be cleared or repaired.
