Andhra Pradesh will establish 22 additional dialysis centres under the Pradhan Mantri National Dialysis Programme, taking the number of centres operating through the scheme in the state from 61 to 83, Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav said in a press release on Tuesday.
The new facilities are being planned around patient needs and requests from public representatives, with the government saying the expansion is intended to improve access to free dialysis for poor families. The proposed centres will be located in area hospitals and community health centres across several districts.
The facilities will come up at Bhimavaram Area Hospital in West Godavari, Pileru Area Hospital in Chittoor, Jammalamadugu Area Hospital and Mydukur Community Health Centre in YSR Kadapa, and Gannavaram Community Hospital and Gudivada Area Hospital in Krishna district.
Venkatagiri and Udayagiri Community Health Centres in Nellore, Addanki and Repalle Community Health Centres in Bapatla, and Railway Koduru and Satyavedu Community Health Centres in Tirupati have also been identified. Other locations include Kondapi in Prakasam, Kovvur in East Godavari, Nandigama in NTR district, and Vinukonda Community Health Centre and Sattenapalli Area Hospital in Palnadu.
The remaining proposed centres are at Bobbili Community Health Centre in Vizianagaram, Done Area Hospital and Sunnipenta Community Health Centre in Nandyal, and Penukonda Community Health Centre and Madakasira Area Hospital in Sri Sathya Sai district.
Each new centre will have five dialysis machines, at an estimated cost of Rs 85 lakh, and will be equipped to conduct 15 sessions a day. The annual expenditure on services provided through the new facilities is estimated at around Rs 11 crore. The government expects the centres to reduce the distance patients travel for treatment and lower related expenses.
The state currently has 754 machines operating across 61 centres under the PMNDP. In addition, 170 centres function under the NTR Vaidya Seva Trust, including 21 in the government sector and 149 in private and corporate facilities, according to the press release.
The state spent Rs 197.8 crore on free dialysis services through the two schemes in 2025-26. Services worth Rs 90.09 crore have been provided to poor patients so far in 2026-27, while expenditure in 2024-25 stood at Rs 126.5 crore. The government pays Rs 999 per dialysis session, compared with Rs 3,000 to Rs 4,000 charged by private and corporate hospitals, the release said.
Andhra Pradesh had established 28 PMNDP centres before 2019, followed by 19 centres between 2019 and 2024. Fourteen additional centres have been established since 2024-25, with the latest announcement taking the planned expansion further. Some proposed centres had been delayed because of various reasons, including court proceedings.
Yadav directed officials to ensure that all 22 facilities become operational as soon as possible. The PMNDP was launched by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare under the National Health Mission in the 2016-17 Union Budget to provide dialysis services to below-poverty-line patients at district hospitals, including through a public-private partnership model.
