Amaravati Drinking Water Projects Accelerated for 2027 Target

Amaravati drinking water project construction near the Krishna river and a planned water treatment plant

Amaravati drinking water projects are being accelerated, with the Amaravati Development Corporation (ADC) directing officials and contractors to speed up construction of intake, treatment and distribution infrastructure for the capital region’s projected population.

ADC chairperson and managing director D. Lakshmi Parthasarathi reviewed the works during an inspection of the 380 million litres per day (MLD) intake well tanks being built in the Krishna river near Venkata Palem. She sought details on construction progress, manpower and machinery from ADC chief engineer T. Moses Kumar and reviewed the targets set for the project.

The intake wells will draw water from the Krishna river for treatment and distribution. Parthasarathi, who had inspected the works three months earlier, directed officials to accelerate construction while maintaining quality standards, according to the report. She also instructed senior and junior engineering officials to monitor the project every day.

The inspection included the Phase-I water treatment plant being constructed at Krishnayapalem village. The plant will treat water drawn from the intake well and has a capacity of 190 MLD. The project is one part of a wider water-supply network being developed by the ADC for the capital region.

The ADC is constructing seven water supply centres in Amaravati. Parthasarathi also inspected a cushion tank being built near the N-4 road for a 2,400-kilolitre water distribution plant. Representatives of the NCC contractor were instructed to meet the project targets by May 2027.

The sequence of facilities under construction indicates the planned water system will depend on linked stages: drawing raw water from the river, treating it at the Phase-I plant, storing it in distribution infrastructure and supplying it through the capital’s water-supply centres. The capacities cited for the intake works and treatment plant provide the main publicly stated scale of the project.

The inspection also covered works in LPS Zones 9 and 12 along the route. ADC chief engineer Ch. Dhanunjaya, superintending engineers T. Vaikuntha Rao and R. Hanumantha Reddy, executive engineers M. Sridhar Reddy, N. Sivalinga Rao and Y. Appaji, along with other officials, were present during the review.

The next stated milestone is the achievement of construction targets for the cushion tank and associated distribution plant by May 2027, while ADC officials are expected to continue daily monitoring of the drinking-water projects.
