Ahmedabad Weather Nears 39°C as Gujarat Awaits October Rain

Ahmedabad weather is expected to remain hot through the next seven days, with maximum temperatures forecast to stay close to 39°C even as parts of Gujarat may receive light to moderate rain on October 19, according to the weather department.

The forecast attributes the rise in temperatures to north-westerly winds, which are expected to bring summer-like heat to the state during October. Maximum temperatures across Gujarat are likely to remain between 36°C and 39°C until October 19, while minimum temperatures may range from 19°C to 24°C.

Ahmedabad, Surat and Rajkot have recorded a noticeable increase in temperatures despite the usual transition towards cooler conditions at this time of year. Ahmedabad has recorded a maximum temperature of 38.5°C, while the city is expected to see a maximum of around 39°C and a minimum of 24°C.

Pradeep Sharma, a scientist with the weather department, said Gujarat’s October heat had broken a nine-year record. In Ahmedabad, the maximum temperature had earlier reached 39.4°C in October 2017, while 38.4°C was recorded in 2024. The latest forecast indicates that temperatures in the city could remain around 39°C in the immediate period.

The department has also forecast light to moderate rain in selected parts of the state on October 19 because of the impact of a seasonal trough. Amreli, Bhavnagar, Valsad and Navsari are among the areas expected to receive rain, along with Daman and Dadra and Nagar Haveli. The rain could provide partial relief from the heat in these areas, although the forecast does not indicate a broad change in the state’s temperature pattern.

Rajkot has experienced temperatures above 39°C over the past two days. The city’s maximum temperature is expected to reach 39°C, with a minimum of 25°C. Vadodara may record a maximum of 37°C and a minimum of 24°C.

Surat has also experienced a sharp rise in heat. Its maximum temperature climbed by 1.5°C in a single day to reach 38.1°C. The report said the city had exceeded the October maximum-temperature records recorded in 2021 and 2022. Data from the previous eight years showed that this was the second time in that period that Surat’s October temperature had crossed 38°C. The city’s all-time October high remains 38.8°C, recorded in 2012.

The heat has also extended into the night in Surat, where the minimum temperature reached 23.8°C. Residents have increasingly relied on air-conditioners during both the afternoon and night as temperatures remain elevated.

The weather department’s immediate forecast is for continued heat across Gujarat, with isolated light to moderate rain expected in specified districts on October 19. Ahmedabad and other major cities are expected to remain under a high-temperature pattern during the next seven days.
