Ahmedabad Tree Trimming Payment Goes Online at Residents’ Doorstep

Ahmedabad tree trimming payment service being processed for a private housing society

Ahmedabad residents in private housing societies can now pay charges for tree trimming online at the site where the service is requested, after the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation introduced an on-the-spot payment facility. The change was announced at the civic body’s standing committee meeting while members reviewed the implementation of its Tree Trimming and Green Waste Collection policy.

The policy, introduced last month, allows citizens to apply online for tree trimming services. Under the new arrangement, an online collection module will allow residents to pay the prescribed charge and receive a receipt directly on the spot, standing committee chairman Kamlesh Patel said.

Patel said instructions had been issued to make the facility operational immediately. The change is intended to remove the need for residents to visit civic centres after raising a request for tree trimming. The report did not specify the prescribed charges or the payment platform through which the module will operate.

The decision comes as the AMC reviews how its tree-trimming and green-waste system is functioning for private housing societies. Tree trimming requests involve both the civic body’s service process and the management of the resulting green waste, making payment collection and receipt issuance part of the operational chain.

The committee also reviewed the cleaning of water tanks maintained by the civic body. Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has 243 water tanks, each of which is required to be cleaned twice a year according to a fixed schedule. Officials told the committee that 96 tanks had so far been cleaned as per schedule.

The committee instructed officials to ensure regular cleaning and continuous monitoring of the work. The report did not provide a deadline for completing the remaining scheduled cleaning or details of the monitoring mechanism.

Separately, the civic body decided to repossess two plots in Motera and Ognaj that had been allotted to the Uttar Gujarat Vij Company Ltd (UGVCL) on 99-year leases for constructing sub-divisional offices. Although the decision to allot the plots was taken in 2023, UGVCL has not paid the prescribed land price or begun construction despite repeated notices, according to the report.

The AMC estate department has been asked to identify other allotted plots where payments have not been made or deadlines have lapsed. It has also been instructed to initiate cancellation proceedings according to the applicable rules. The next steps will therefore involve the department’s review of outstanding payments and construction deadlines, along with action on the two Motera and Ognaj plots.
