Ahmedabad Trader Attacked, ₹15 Lakh Robbed Near Police Point

Ahmedabad trader robbery investigation near a busy commercial centre in Mirzapur

A textile trader was allegedly attacked with sharp weapons and robbed of ₹15 lakh by four unidentified men near Premier Shopping Centre in Mirzapur, Ahmedabad, prompting Shahpur police to register a case and begin a search for the suspects.

The trader, identified as Mohammad Sajid Shaikh, was returning home with the cash after leaving his office late on October 8 when the attackers allegedly intercepted him in the shopping centre’s parking area. According to the report, the assailants struck him with sharp weapons before taking the cash and fleeing.

Shaikh suffered serious injuries to his abdomen and hand. He was reportedly found bleeding at the shopping centre after he failed to return home by late night. A search of the premises led to his discovery, following which details of the alleged robbery came to light.

Shahpur police have registered a case under provisions relating to attempt to murder and robbery. Multiple police teams have been deployed to identify and apprehend the four suspects, who remain at large, according to the report.

Police are also examining whether the attackers were known to the victim. Investigators suspect that the assailants may have been familiar with Shaikh’s movements because they allegedly waited for him at the time he left his office and intercepted him while he was carrying the cash. The report said police were investigating how the accused knew the trader’s route and timing.

The incident occurred near Premier Shopping Centre, a location described in the report as regularly busy because of continuous public movement. The site is also reportedly around 50 metres from a police security point. The fact that the attackers allegedly carried out the assault and escaped from an area close to a security post has raised questions about surveillance and policing in the commercial district.

The case highlights the security challenges faced by traders and workers carrying substantial amounts of cash through dense urban marketplaces. Commercial complexes often combine retail activity, parking areas, offices and late-evening movement, creating spaces where visibility and accountability can vary sharply between the main frontage and less monitored internal areas. The supplied report does not establish whether closed-circuit television footage, eyewitness accounts or mobile-location data have been obtained by investigators.

Police teams are continuing efforts to trace the suspects and establish the sequence of events. The investigation will also determine whether the robbery was planned based on prior knowledge of Shaikh’s movements and how the accused escaped from the area.
