Ahmedabad Student Document Camp Clears 11,000 Errors

An Ahmedabad student document correction camp initiative has cleared around 11,000 errors in students’ names, surnames and caste details ahead of board examination form submissions, according to the Ahmedabad city district education office.

The correction drive is being conducted under the ‘Kacheri Aapna Dware’ campaign, which takes education office services closer to schools and local areas. The objective is to prevent students and parents from making repeated visits to the district education office for routine corrections.

Ahmedabad city district education officer Rohit Chaudhary said camps had been started in schools across the eastern and western parts of the city, organised according to school clusters and administrative beats. Schools have been asked to collect applications from students who require corrections and present them when a camp is held in their area.

Applications submitted at these camps are being processed at the same location, with officials aiming to dispose of them within a single day. The corrections cover names, surnames and caste details in the records of students from Classes 1 to 12.

According to Chaudhary, more than 7,000 correction orders have been issued at the camps during the current year. A further 4,000 urgent corrections have been processed directly through the education office. Together, these cases account for around 11,000 corrections reported by the department.

The timing of the drive is linked to the submission of board examination forms. Errors in personal or category details can create difficulties for students when examination records are prepared, making timely corrections necessary before the forms are filed. The department said the process was also intended to reduce the need for students to seek corrections later.

The initiative addresses a routine administrative problem that can impose a disproportionate burden on families. When schools refer parents to the education office, guardians may have to take leave from work, travel to the office and return again if an application is not resolved on the first visit. By collecting applications through schools and taking the correction team to different areas, the department is attempting to shift the process closer to students.

The education officer said a dedicated team had been formed to conduct the camps in different parts of Ahmedabad. Schools are responsible for bringing the applications to the camps, after which the officials process the cases on the same day, according to the department’s account.

The district education office plans to hold camps every month in each area in the coming period. Schools will continue collecting correction requests and submitting them when the camp is scheduled for their locality.
